As the summer months bring the beautiful sunshine and rays of heat, they also bring along with them sweat and humidity. In my opinion, there is nothing worse than looking in the mirror halfway through the day only to find your makeup running down your face. New York summer days are the worst! The humidity makes every attempt of looking halfway decent extremely hard. Over time I have found some pretty amazing summer makeup tricks in order to get my makeup to last through any long, hot summer day. Of course, some people just have better skin and their makeup stays put while others don’t have it that easy. If you struggle with the summer temperatures and just can’t seem to get your makeup to last, i thought i would share some tips for keeping your summer makeup in place.
how to make your summer makeup last through hot and humid days
1) Prep, properly
All good makeup artists will tell you that half the battle with creating a flawless face of makeup is with the prepping of the skin. The products you use before applying any makeup can enhance its longevity dramatically, so ensuring the skin is properly hydrated and primed is important for long, hot days. First, i start by using a mattifying moisturizer to get rid of oil excess on my skin. ( My Favorite: Caudalie MATTIFYING MOISTURIZER ) The next important step is to use a primer. Look for a primer that contains silicone and has shine control, which will act as a barrier between humidity and your skin. ( My Favorite: Nars – PORE & SHINE CONTROL PRIMER )
2) Opt for creams over powders
When choosing an eyeshadow or blush, go for a stick or cream instead of a powder version. Not only do creams catch the light beautifully and make the skin look healthy and naturally radiant, they also layer much more seamlessly than powders. In addition, it will less likely disappear during the day and won’t get cakey ( My favorite: Charlotte Tilbury- Eyes to Mesmerise Cream Eyeshadow )
3) Use waterproof eyeliner and mascara
For lush lashes and liner that won’t run, use a waterproof liquid liner and waterproof mascara. Raccoon eyes are never a cute look. ( My Favorite: STILA STAY ALL DAY® WATERPROOF LIQUID EYELINER )
4) Opt for setting sprays and setting powders
If you have a particularly oily skin or want to combat the excess shine that your skin produces throughout the day, try using a setting powder to seal off your makeup. (My favorite: LAURA MERCIER TRANSLUCENT LOOSE SETTING POWDER) If a powder isn’t for you, try spritzing your face with a mattifying setting spray throughout the day to control the shine and keep you looking flawless. ( My favorite: Urban decay – ALL NIGHTER LONG-LASTING MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY)
