5 Makeup Products that are a total waste of money

makeup products

Hey Ladies

There are plenty of articles and promotions on makeup products that you SHOULD buy and must have, however nobody will tell you what NOT to buy. The beauty business is one of the largest retail business and we sure know why. We love to look beautiful and any product that promises that is a “add to cart”. Nevetheless, there are lot’s of products that are just here to feed on your money and promise unrealistic things. Here are a few products that i have tried and bought and really saw no use out of them besides that i have spent far too much money on them

Makeup Products that are a waste of money

Lip Plumper

Here is the deal, yes we love big lips however, unless you dont use a needle to inject some botox, there is no such thing as a lip plumper! I have been so foolish to believe that this glam glow lip plumper will make my lips looking full and fab, yet i had a big diasappointement. Ever wondered why after eating a bag of hot spicy chips your lips feel blown up and full?! Because certain spices irritate the skin in that way and lip plumbers use exactly that. So save yourself 20$ and dab some hot spicy on your lips ( just kidding but you get the point!)

Designer Nail Polish

yes, marc jacobs nail polish bottle looks very cool, nontheless is it worth 20$ for a small tiny bottle?! We all have our weaknesses and yes that nailpolish will look great on my vanity, but seriouslsy there is nothing more special in that bottle. Nail polish has all the same ingredients no matter the price tag, so i will keep on using my 6$ H&M nail polish. I have reviewed them here.

Lower Lash Mascara

Another invention that is just here to make you believe you cant look amazing without it!
I have tried this Pixi lower lash mascara and seriously did not see a difference when using my relugar mascara or this one. Moreover, i liked the effect of my regular mascara better since the big wand covered my lashes more and fuller.

Blotting Sheets

Tarte, Boscia and Milk makeup sells them amongst many others. It has basically the same effect when you use a kleenex tissue and dap your face with it. If you see that you have a bit of an oily glow, use a makeup powder or a tissue. No need to spend money on an additional product.

Setting Powder

Another product to stay far away from. Makeup forever sells this for 35$ and let me explain why it’s a waste of money. There are so many ways to set your makeup you do not need this white powder on your face. Remember those aweful pictures from celebrities on the red carpet looking like a bag of flour spilled on them?! Thats this setting powder! If not used right this can go awefully wrong. Still want to spend 35$ for this? Use a spray or dont use anything at all. Your makeup will be just fine without it.

You’re right! no one ever tells us what NOT to buy 🙂 I’ve never had success with lip plumper either. xo Jana | http://www.janastyleblog.com

LOVE this post! And I couldn’t agree with you more on your choices. The most expensive nail polish I have ever bought was from Chanel. It was $25.00 CDN a bottle, and the quality was worse than most drugstore brands. Very thick and did not apply evenly.

Such a great post Toby! It is so true that there are so many posts out there that talk about products that we NEED to buy, but I like that you are debunking the rumors! I’ll use all my extra cash for something else!

I agree with several of these! I wouldn’t waste money on lower lash mascara or designer nail polishes. Great post!

Blotting papers are always my go-to when I am feeling a little oily. Thanks for giving us the 411 on the other products!

I used to use kleenex to blot oil, but I got blotting papers because I can carry them around with me and they’re much smaller than kleenex!

While I think oil blotting sheets and setting powder are a GOD SEND- totally agree on everything else! Lip plumper is such a downer.

I always wondered if these products were worth it. I had a lip plumper before and all it did was make my lips tingle. Haha.

So helpful!!! I TOTALLY agree on designer nail polish — never understood how $25 nail polish could possibly be that much better than my $8 OPI polish. And lower lash mascara?! What?! I’ve never even heard of that, but it sounds bananas. Glad you’ve debunked it!

LOL…I went through this whole post laughing in total agreement. It’s amazing what we will buy when the right words are said!

Lip plumpers have never worked for me either, and I actually hate the tingling feeling they leave on my lips! I am however a huge fan of the Laura Mercier setting powder, as well as the bareMinerals mineral veil, so I have to say it’s worth the money for me 🙂

I agree with all of these except for the setting powder but I have very oily skin so I need multiple things to lock it in lol! Also, my Wet n Wild nail polishes perform just as well as my Marc Jacobs!

Thank you for sharing your list – completely agree with all of the products you mentioned as being “extra”. I’m a big fan of minimizing and multi-purposing. As a busy stylist, who is always on the go, I truly value having a few amazing products that do more, over a full bag of one-purpose ones.
