I know it has been a while since i have shown my presence here! Not that i have been lacking inspiration, on the contrary actually, sometimes there is so much to blog about that i don’t even know where to start! I came back last week from my trip to Switzerland and i am still on a high from it. Even though traveling with my 2-year-old was not that fun, the overall visit to Switzerland made it all worthwhile. If you have not been to Switzerland yet, i suggest you visit asap! it’s absolutely breathtaking and beautiful. Here are my few tips on what to do and what to see and some pictures that i snapped along the way.
The one thing i was looking forward to when visiting switzerland, was being able to get around the city with public transportation like the Tram ( trolley on the street ) and not having to sit in the car forever to get somewhere. It literally takes you anywhere you want and your ticket could be used on boats and trains as well which saves you a lot of time. Most of Zürich’s sites are located within the area on either side of the Limmat River. The streets of the old town are clustered here, as are the most expensive shops along the famous Bahnhofstrasse.
What i love most about Zurich is the beautiful lake and its surroundings including all the pretty shops and boutiques located in the old city part. The shopping experience in Zurich is like no other. Known as one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world, Bahnhofstrasse is popular with visitors. Its lower half (starting from the main station) is filled with the usual high street brands, while most of the luxury shops are situated at the upper end, close to Bürkliplatz and the lake. The service, stores, and exclusive products make it a memorable experience.
Now just to warn you it’s VERY expensive, that’s all i can say.
On Friday’s there is the main market, Zurich’s largest farmers market near the lake which is a sight for itself. You can get fresh produce, flowers galore and all kinds of milk produce. The fact that it’s near the lake makes it a great day trip following a boat ride or boat rental.
Zurich also has its own mountain area called the Uetliberg which you could get to, with the train in just about 20 min, how cool! The view on top is magnificent and there are several trails and hiking paths surrounding the area. Stop for a quick bite or fresh juice at the hotel and terrace at the top point.
Here are a few things you must experience when in Zurich, Switzerland
// Mandatory in Zurich, Indulge in some sweets and a cup of coffee at Sprüngli
// Shop at Grieder and enjoy a glass of champagne in the Griederbar terrace.
// Experience the best view of Zurich with the lake and The Alps in the background at
Jule Verne Panorama Bar
// Relax at the Thermalbad & Spa with a view over the city from its rooftop pool.
// Rent a bike for free and cycle down the lake area.
// Hop on the Limmat boat and experience the city from the water.
// Stroll through the old city complete with cobblestones and antique shops
Overall Zurich might be small compared to other cities in the world but the sights its has to offer is one of a kind. I am lucky to call this small but beautiful city home and i am glad i get to visit it once in a while. Let me know if you are planning on visiting Switzerland or if you have ever been there.
